A Public Workshop and Hearing will be held by the Federal Aviation Administration from 5 to 8 pm, Thursday, June 21, 2018, regarding the Tucson International Airport’s (TIA) Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) on the addition of a second runway and taxiway improvements. Both of these events will be held on the first floor of the Tucson Executive Terminal, at the base of the old Airport Traffic Control Tower building with “TUCSON” on the side, 7081 S. Plumer Ave.
The Public Workshop and Hearing is set for 5 to 6 pm, and the chance to give input through comment sheets or recorded comment, will be from 6 to 8 pm. Details on the Environmental Impact Statement process and documents can be found at https://www.airportprojects.net/tus-eis/reports-documents/. The Draft EIS comment period closes Monday, July 9, 2018.
The second runway is an advantage for commercial traffic, providing additional flights, and establishes a designated runway for the 162nd Air Guard. These additions to TIA are a safety enhancement, reducing the possibility of runway incursions by increasing safety in the takeoff and landing corridors for the main operating runways ( 11L/29R and 11R/29L) at TIA.
